AllWaysNY Features
AllWaysNY's current Research
Feature highlights the components of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel
Authority (TBTA). The earliest form of the TBTA began in 1933
when the Triborough Bridge Authority was created to fund the
construction of the bridge. Over time various toll-collecting
authorities were combined (view the history of consolidation here
to form the TBTA in 1946. Robert
Moses
headed the Authority from 1934 to 1968 and used the combined toll
revenues from the various TBTA river crossings to create a super-agency
that could fund various capital construction projects throughout the
city. The TBTA (now called MTA Bridges and Tunnels) manages the:
Triborough Bridge; Verrazano-Narrows
Bridge; Throgs Neck Bridge; Bronx-Whitestone Bridge; Henry Hudson
Bridge; Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge; Cross Bay Veterans
Memorial Bridge; Queens Midtown Tunnel; Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel.
